Base Ball Hitting Drills

any baseball tips..PLEASE im desperate!?

so 5 days a week i play baseball BY MYSELF. my dad is too busy and buildings he owns so about once every 3 weeks he'll play for an hour. but i dont have a tee or money to get one. so i throw the ball up swing fast and go get it and repeat i do that for about an hour along with running drills. then i throw against the fence for grounders and help my arm strength. any ideas on batting??? cause my swing is bad and when my dad pitches i can hit the ball a lot farther than when i throw it up. cause of the bad swing…and ideas?? THANKS

oh yea i know i SHOULD be playing softball but i dont i play baseball (2nd base) and i love it.

also if you have any secondbaseman tips id love to hear them!!
1- batting tips when batting alone (throwing the ball up and swinging is not effective)
2- any second baseman tips

yah, forget softball….i play baseball too. anyway, for your swing: you do not need to have a ball to work on your mechanics, in fact, don't use one until you are ready to put your mechanics into tee work or live pitching. first, you wanna have a correct batting stance; before swinging, you must have lower body mechanics or nothing else will matter. you should be standing in an athletic postion: knees bent, and make sure you are not hunching over. if it helps to keep your weight back when you swing, shift a little of your weight to your back leg.

2. you should have a relaxed grip on the bat, knuckles aligned, and the base of your fingers holding the bat. if you hold it with your palms, you tend to have a tight grip, resulting in a slower swing because with a tight grip, you are pretty much wrestling yourself. relaxed muscles helps you to be faster and more accurate to the ball. you should position your hands so that they are in line with your right shoulder and ear. hold your bat about 45 degrees.

3. LOAD: now that you have your correct postion, you want to practice the correct mechanics. it is extremely important to LOAD! loading allows you to be accurate to the ball and gives you momentum torwards the ball… power. its lyk punching someone, do you ever punch someone without first pulling your arm back and then hitting them, no because that gives you no power or accuracy… not that you would ever punch anyone. you want to load before the pitcher releases the ball… loading: for girls, because lack of upper body strength, you will want to emphasize the turning of your hip… everything together is a simple swaying motion of your hips and hands. also, while loading, you want to pick up ur foot and simply put it back down, it is NOT a stride so do not step further from where your foot originally started. it is absolutely important that you do not let your weight drift forward.

4. SQUASH. before you actually start bringing your hands to the ball, you must "squash the bug." your back foot (right foot) should turn fast and hard so that your heel is faced directly behind you.

5. ROTATE! while squashing the bug, your hips will begin to rotate. for your hands, keep your hands inside the ball at all times! you want to hit the inside middle of the ball, keeping you from getting jammed and allowing you to swing through the ball and not around it. if you swing around the ball, the majority of your hits will be foul or a little dinker off the end of the bat. once again, when punching someone, do you stop once you make contact with them or do you continue to punch through the person?…

6. practice. a simple drill you can do without the bat: prayer drill: put your hands together like you are praying ( palm to palm, finger to finger). stand like you are in the batter's box ( do this drill while watching yourself in the mirror), practice your load, squash, rotate… when loading in this drill you just practice the swaying motion with your hands, then you emphasize the squash, and of course you rotate…which involves the swing. GOOD LUCK!

wow, i wrote a lot :)… email me for visuals, its easier to see it then to hear it…. watch the pro's in the mlb, not one player hits without loading or squashing or rotating

You don't need a batting tee. Have you ever seen one of those orange cones on the street where construction is being done? Take one. A lot of people use them as a tee. There are other drills you can do but it will take too long to type them out in detail. The most important thing in your swing is that you are short and compact. Take the knob of the bat to the pitchers feet instead of coming all the way around with your swing. To work on your fielding, get a spongeball, tennis ball or even a hardball. Throw it against a wall over and over again fielding it with no glove. The glove doesn't catch the ball, your hands do. You have to work on having soft hands and playing without a glove will help. Make sure you field the ball out in front of your body and in the middle of your body whenever possible. Keep your glove down on the ground and keep your feet moving to get momentum on your throw. Hope I was able to help.
